The News

Ok here we are, an official what’s new page, part journal, part newsletter.

April 09_________________________
We have a new page about beaches that defines and explains processes involved in the beach environment.- updates with details about wind and wave generation are in the works.

This summer I will be hitting the road and travelling down the west coast of Oregon

And of course, I will be stopping at as many beaches as I can that are suitable for sailing.
Any suggestions? If you live on the coast, drop us a line! Tell us about beaches you know about, and how to get there, travel tips, like reasonable accommodations (we’re all on a budget these days) would be greatly appreciated.

March_______________________________
The summer of 08 was the worst sailing summer in memory, like having no summer at all, cool, wet weather mostly. The "Weather Network" always had the good weather arriving in about 10 days...all summer long. Hopefully the summer of 2009 will be an better. Not that it stopped me from hitting the water, and I gained experience in sailing in some rough weather that I will pass on in a few sailing tips.

Mostly I sailed one model, one rigged for heavy wind. A simple one sail design that can be easily taken with you and set up on your model when the wind is to much for your 'masterpiece'.

I also have explored several beaches for the first time up here on the pacific west (wet) coast. And I will be telling you about them, and other places I do sailing in.
These may be of no real interest to most of you, but feel free to write in and describe your favourite sailing spots, I would like to post a listing of different beaches around the world that are good sailing beaches.

Much of our language has a nautical origin, words and everyday phrases we take for granted without realizing their source. At the bottom of Fairlead there is a pic of some ‘old salts’ shooting the breeze, with an example of common phrases and the origins of some of those curious sailing terms.
